Photography by Ward
believes good photographs help to sell; and our clients believe so too.
Here's what one, The Roof Box had to say...
"WE'VE
LEARNED THAT SALES RISE CONSIDERABLY IF CUSTOMERS CAN SEE EXACTLY WHAT
THEY'RE BUYING. POOR QUALITY IMAGES ... REDUCE A WEB SITE'S SUCCESS"
Photography by Ward's
clients extend across a wide range of business types and commercial
image requirements; below are a few examples of the types of projects
undertaken.
How
Photography by Ward has worked with clients
The
wholesale business
The web is an
increasingly important part of marketing and sales for many
companies. The
Roof Box Company is a successful North West wholesale
business supplying car accessory products to retailers
throughout the UK. It uses its web-site to sell its products
and despite the fact that many of the manufacturers do provide
images of their products they still want commissioned product
photography to ensure the customer has the best
photographic information upon which to make their choice.
Photography by Ward has undertaken volume product photography
for the last 5 years, the work is carried out on the client's
site and both quality and quantity is
important.
The
individual artist-makers
In
contrast to a wholesale type of business, other clients are highly individual art and craft
businesses, who need to represent their unique work to potential
customers and to galleries and judges in the art world. Here web sites
can be important but it is also key that the work can look good in glossy magazines
and in promotional cards and posters. Photography by Ward's challenge
is to help them show the originality
of their work and the nature of the work often presents a high degree
of technical challenge. Often this work is done in the studio in a creative partnership between
photographer and maker. One example of this is the work of Joan Bideau,
a successful artist-maker for over thirty years who makes ceramic
figurative pieces. The moody photos were created in the studio and the
whole process made for a written feature in the Craftsman's "Craft
and Design" magazine. Click here to see a pdf of that feature

Jude Stoll is a glass-maker and has been selected
to take part in the prestigious International Festival of Glass
Exhibition's British Glass Biennale. Glass
is notoriously difficult to photograph and yet when photographed
well, the results are stunning.

to getting the best images to promote your business.
Brighton men's accessory retailer Denisonboston asked Photography
by Ward to produce some creative shots which would match their
distinctive product style to be used for entry
to a prestigious competition. By using
couriers to bridge the gap between north and south they
were able to take advantage of Photography by Ward's creative
expertise. "By working with Photography
by Ward at this professional level, we achieved images that
were exactly what we were looking for and even beyond our expectations."

The
characterful producer
We
discussed the brief carefully with the client and discovered that a
creative approach to their food photography was desired.
The
business as a well-established specialist cheese maker wanted the images to capture the real mood and
tradition of hands-on production. Hygiene is important in the process
but the premises were old and full of character, a vision of cheese
making from centuries past. Working closely with the owner, the images
needed to capture the real essence and charm of the place, something which translates into the product itself.
Even cows and goats were invited into the proceedings, (with location
photography you can never quite predict what will arise!) and the results were just what the owner wanted.
The food solution
The
CREA Food
Technology
Centre at Redhills
near Penrith represents a £1.5 million investment in the Cumbrian food
and
drink sector. Immediately
after the official
opening by HM The Queen, the team needed to create a strong marketing
brochure
to promote the professional kitchens and other facilities at the
Centre. We were approached
for a
cost estimate and for ideas for communicating
the potential of the Centre
through images.
“Dayve’s
solution combined a focus
on food with an impression of energy and activity,”
says Centre Manager, Dave Prentice. “He
invested time in planning the shoot so that we could be as efficient
as possible and the resulting shots were ideal for our brochure
and branding. Some of the specialist
food media have also used the pictures in recent months, all
adding to the effective promotion of the Food Technology Centre
to target businesses and potential users.”
The
project manager on the brochure was Sally Seed of Stoneleigh
Communications and the designers and printers were Steve and
Gemma at Cypher Digital
in Milnthorpe. “All those
involved in the project worked together to create a strong concept
for the words, pictures and overall style,” said Sally,
“and Photography by Ward were a great partner, turning
those ideas into brilliant pictures.”

Sunrise
Sunrise
System produce a range of lighting systems to relieve
the symptoms of Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). Photography
by Ward were asked to photograph their products with a morning
feel about them. We realised we needed a larger space, so
set up our studio in the local community centre and began
making it look like a bedroom!

Furness Fish
Furness
Fish Poultry & Game Supplies were interested in updating
their website and supplying better images for the next Booth
catalogue. We were asked to supply the photography on site and
produce something that whet the appetite and would be worthy
of display on within Booths supermarket. After drawing up some
ideas, I gave a props list to Furness Fish by way of a challenge!
They not only supplied the props, but dug out a whole host of
other things we could used the the photographs. The 'studio'
was set up on their premises and we gradually produced some
mouth watering shots.
